Is Verandahcos’s History A Timeline, Or An Evening?
A building on Kinghorne Street has changed hands more times than anyone still counts; what has not changed is the shape of a single night inside it.
What Did This Building Do Before It Held Cards?
Before the card tables, the ground floor graded produce for farms across the district — nobody now working the room remembers the scales themselves, only the wide doorway they were wheeled through.
That doorway is the same one guests use tonight, and Tuesday to Saturday it sees the same pattern: a first arrival at six, a full room by nine, an empty one well after midnight.
So the real history of the club is not really a list of decades — it is that one evening, told again and again, with different hands and the same four tables.
Ask a regular how long Verandahcos has been open and most will answer with a night, not a year: the last time the crib knockout ran late, or the night the power went out mid-deal and nobody moved from the table.

What Does That Evening Actually Look Like?
